The Iranian problem

I enjoyed this article by Noam Chomsky at http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/04/06/342.  As the revered Islamic prophet [who is followed in action by the same percentage of Islam as Christianity] stated: just walk a mile in someone else’s shoes before condemning that person. As is so often the case in political discourse the term “not open for discussion” rules the roost. It’s a liars only club for speakers at forums on drug problems. The only people recognized as “experts on foreign policy” are those who support huge military spending on weaponry and the unfettered use of military force and violent covert operations.

We have had over 30 years since we first knew of our dependency on Mid East oil and have done next to nothing to develop energy alternatives. A comparable scenario would have constant foreign military presence to protect access to our vast wealth of timber areas. Needless to say if such a situation had occurred we would have more than our fair share of violent terrorists in this country. Our leadership won’t follow the rule of law and international norms because “it would interfere with our sovereignty”. This has been openly stated by presidents of this country since the end of World War One.  We stayed out of the League of Nations and have  used our presence in the United Nations to promote our political agenda - at the expense of other sovereign nations. Can you say “playground bully”?
